The FBI investigated a recent attack on a US water treatment center near Springfield, Ill. The system technician reported that the system was hacked from a computer located in Russia [Interesting… isn’t Russia starting become BFFs with “our friend,” China].
Anyhoo, early reports indicated that the SCADA system was compromised. SCADA is the same system that controls our water treatment facilities, gas pipelines, railways switches, chemical plants and nuclear reactors. The DHS and FBI reported that there was absolutely no evidence to support the US water treatment was hacked.
“After detailed analysis, DHS and the FBI have found no evidence of a cyber intrusion into the SCADA system of the Curran-Gardner Public Water District in Springfield, Illinois,” the email, which carries a subject of“ UPDATE – Recent Incidents Impacting Two Water Utilities,” stated.
Whew… that’s good news.
